Abstract:Objective To investigate the status quo of low body weight and malnutrition in newly-treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients in Hetian Region, South Xinjiang, to analyze its influencing factors, and to provide references for clinical standardized nutritional support. Methods We selected 342 newly-treated pulmonary tuberculosis inpatients from a hospital in Hetian Region, South Xinjiang from January to May 2020 to serve as the study subjects. The status of low body weight and malnutrition was investigated by a questionnaire survey, and SPSS 20.0 software was used for χ2 test. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the current status of low body weight and malnutrition and its influencing factors. Results A total of 342 valid questionnaires were collected, including 174 (50.9%) males and 168 (49.1%) females. 162 (47.4%) of the surveyed subjects experienced low body weight and malnutrition. The Results of multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that 60 years of age and above (OR=3.380, 95%CI:1.681-6.793), alcohol consumption (OR=4.060, 95%CI:1.696-9.719) and having complications (OR=1.596, 95%CI:1.053-2.901) were risk factors for low body weight and malnutrition in the newly-treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients, while household per capita monthly income (OR=0.531, 95%CI:0.215-0.9547) was protective factor. Conclusion The incidence of low body weight and malnutrition in the newly-treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients in Hetian Region was high. Age, alcohol consumption, complications and household per capita monthly income were the factorsinfluencing low body weight and malnutrition in the newly-treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients. Medical professionals should pay attention to the nutrition risk assessment and screening, implementing early targeted nutrition intervention, andpreventing or slowing down the occurrence and development of low body weight and malnutrition in the patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
