Abstract:Objective To investigate the attention to global climate change and its awareness status and influencing factors among medical professionals in Shenzhen City, and to provide a scientific basis for making relevant decisions. Methods A stratified random cluster sampling method was used to select 786 medical professionals from hospitals, centers for diseases control and prevention, health inspection institutes and other medical institutions in Shenzhen City in late 2015, and then a questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate their demographic characteristics, attention to global climate change, awareness of knowledge about climate change, the way to obtain climate change knowledge, attitude towards participating in adaptation to climate change and willingness and behavior in dealing with climate change. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the attention rate, awareness rate and their influencing factors. Results The awareness rate and attention rate of climate change in the medical professionals in Shenzhen City were 88.8% and 49.4% respectively. The attention rate was found to be higher in the age group of 55 years and above (77.8%) and medical professionals from hospitals (60.2%).The Internet (84.0%), television (75.3%), newspapers (66.9%) and books (52.7%) were the main ways to acquire climate change knowledge. The factors affecting awareness of climate change knowledge were actively acquiring knowledge about climate change and its impact on health (OR=1.934, 95%CI:1.053-2.745) and the level of understanding of climate change (OR=1.630, 95%CI:1.100-2.451). Conclusions The awareness rate of climate change in the medical professionals in Shenzhen City in 2015 was high, but the attention was insufficient. It is necessary to intensify the propaganda and training regarding climate change knowledge.
