Abstract:The Gulf countries are important strategic cooperative partners of China, which are confronted with dual burden of diseases. In recent years, the outbreaks of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in the Gulf region become more frequent, and pose a threat to the public health security of China. The COVID-19 pandemic has fully revealed that there are still many deficiencies and challenges in the public health system construction and governance capacity in the Gulf countries. This paper analyzes the public health security risks and the Gulf countries’ governance capacities in public health, and suggests that China and the Gulf countries should strengthen cooperation on improving disease surveillance system, promoting health emergency response capacity, public health personnel training, and the research and development on vaccine, drug, diagnostic and treatment technology.
