Abstract:Objective To understand the public's hand washing related behavior and its influencing factors before and after the COVID-19 epidemic. Method The electronic questionnaires were distributed through the WeChat official account platform of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Results A total of 7,011 valid questionnaires were collected among 13,193 back-end visits during the survey period. The proportion of washing hands >10 times per day in daily life increased from 15.0% before the epidemic to 48.3% after the epidemic, and that of washing hands < 3 times declined from 13.3% before the epidemic to 1.5% after the epidemic. The proportion of each hand washing time longer than 20 seconds increased from 22.2% before the epidemic to 51.7% after the epidemic, and that of each hand washing time less than 10 seconds decreased from 35.3% before the epidemic to 4.0% after the epidemic. The utilization rate of hand disinfectant increased from 40.6% before the epidemic to 84.0% after the epidemic. Multivariate logistic analysis showed that males, students and people with an educational background of junior high school and below were more likely to wash their hands <3 times per day in daily life after the epidemic. Conclusion The public has a high degree of acceptance of washing hand to prevent 2019-nCoV infection after the COVID-19 epidemic. It is necessary to specifically improve the education about hand hygiene among males, students and people with an educational background of junior high school and below so as to let them recognize the importance of hand washing.
