Abstract:Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis (VAPP) cases detected from acute flaccid paralysis(AFP) cases in Hebei Province during 2011-2015. Methods Descriptive epidemiological method was used to analyze the data about the epidemiological survey and laboratory test results of the reported cases of AFP in Hebei Province during 2011-2015. Results There were 52 strains of poliovirus, including 50 strains of vaccine-associated poliovirus and 2 strains of vaccine high-mutant poliovirus (VHMPV) isolated from the feces samples of 1,889 AFP cases, with the detection rate of 2.75%. All cases were sporadic, and showed no clustering distribution. The AFP cases aged 3 years and below accounted for 82.69%, and the AFP cases with 3 or more than 3 doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) for 61.54%. There were 11 cases of VAPP confirmed, and the incidence rate of VAPP occurring after the first dose of OPV was 1.86/1,000,000. Conclusions Special attention should be paid to AFP cases and possible circulating VDPV induced by VAPP and vaccine-derived poliovirus (VDPV). Maintaining the high quality level of monitoring and the high coverage rate of OPV is very necessary, which is conducive to timely discovering and scientificly managing the outbreaks due to both the imported wild poliovirus and VDPV, avoiding the spread and prevalence and protecting the health of children.
