Abstract:Objective To analyze the epidemic status and distribution characteristics of chronic diseases in Jiangyin residents in 2015, and to evaluate the application effect of the self-developed surveillance system for chronic diseases based on the hospital information system in Jiangyin City. Methods We collected the cases of hypertension, diabetes, acute coronary heart disease, stroke and malignant tumors in Jiangyin City in 2015, and analyzed the incidence rates of the five kinds of chronic diseases and the quality of surveillance in this city. Results The overall incidence rate of the five kinds of chronic diseases was 2,154.33/100,000, and the gender-specific incidence rate was higher in males (2,345.18/100,000) than in females (1,965.05/100,000), with statistically significant differences (P<0.001). The incidence rate of hypertension was the highest, followed by stroke, diabetes, malignant tumors and acute coronary heart disease. The incidence trends of these diseases all increased with the increasing age. After applying the surveillance system of chronic diseases in Jiangyin City in 2015, the reporting, integrity and promptness rates of the chronic diseases increased notably, while the duplicated reporting rate decreased markedly, showing statistical significant differences (P<0.001). Conclusions Hypertension and stroke are the key disease types for prevention and control in Jiangyin City. Middle-aged and elderly people, especially male middle-aged and senior residents are key health intervention groups in this city. The effects of developing and applying the survillance system for chronic diseases based on the hospital information system on monitoring chronic diseases are remarkable, and the practice is worth popularizing.
