Abstract:Objective To investigate the regularity and epidemiological characteristics of food poisoning in Wuxi City so as to provide effective measures for its prevention and control. Methods Descriptive epidemiological method was used to analyze the data of food poisoning in Wuxi City from 2003 to 2014. Results A total of 316 food poisoning incidents were reported, involving 4,559 patients. Most of the cases occurred in the third quarter, accounting for 61.71%. Food poisoning occurred mostly in restaurants (37.97%) and canteens (30.38%). Bacterial food poisoning incidents accounted for 85.13%, of which Vibrio parahemolyticus induced food poisoning incidents acounted for 50.56%. Cross-contamination of raw and cooked food was the major cause of food poisoning. Conclusions Food poisoning is an important public health problem in Wuxi City in 2003-2014. Bacterial food poisoning is the dominant type and shows an obvious seasonal distribution. It is necessary to adopt targeted prevention and control measures.
