Abstract:Objective To investigate the status of mental health in urban residents in Xi'an City, and to provide a scientific basis for establishing a psychoanalysis model and promoting the health of residents. Method The community residents who received health care services at 8 community health service centers in Xincheng District of Xi'an City from June 1 to December 31 in 2016 served as the research subjects, and their psychological status was measured by the Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90). Results The score of each factor of the SCL-90 in community residents in Xi'an City was between 1.24 and 1.67, and no significant peak was found. There were statistically significant differences between males and females in the scores of all factors (P<0.05) except hostility (t=1.111, P=0.267), phobia (t=1.658, P=0.098) and psychosis (t=0.359, t=0.719); moreover, the scores of all factors were higher in females than in males. Comparison of the scores of four factors in males between 2016 and 1986 showed that the scores of somatization (t=2.240, P=0.025), interpersonal relationship (t=5.132, P=0.000), depression (t=2.730, P=0.006) and anxiety (t=2.029, P=0.043) in 2016 were all lower than those in the norms of normal Chinese in 1986. The scores of anxiety (t=2.722, P=0.007) and psychosis (t=3.302, P=0.001) in females in 2016 were higher than those in the norms of normal Chinese in 1986. The scores of all factors were found to be the highest in the age groups of 18-<45 years; moreover, the scores of factors like compulsive symptom, interpersonal relationship, depression, anxiety, hostility, paranoid and psychosis in the age groups of 30-<40 years in 2016 were significantly higher than those in the norms of normal Chinese in 1986. Conclusions The general mental health of residents in Xi’an City in 2016 remained steady compared with the norms of normal Chinese in 1986, and the concrete manifestations include increasingly prominent psychological health problems in females and an upward trend in obsessive-compulsive disorder, interpersonal relationship and psychosis. The mental health problems were the severest in the residents aged 18-<45 years, especially in those aged 30-<40 years, showing rising trends in obsessive-compulsive disorder, interpersonal relationship, depression, anxiety, hostility, paranoia and psychosis.
