Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) combined with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and metabolic markers, and to provide evidence for NAFLD treatment and prevention. Methods T2DM patients who visited the Second Hospital of Huangshi City from December 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019 were selected as the surveyed subjects. According to whether T2DM patients suffered from NAFLD or not, they were divided into the NAFLD group and the control group. General information about the patients was investigated, physical examination was conducted, and biochemical indexes were measured. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the factors influencing T2DM with or without NAFLD. Results A total of 279 surveyed subjects were enrolled in the study, and the non-NAFLD group included 177(63.44%) patients, with the mean age of (70.06±6.75) years. There were 70(39.55%) patients with the course of the disease less than or equal to 5 years and 107(60.45%) patients with the course of the disease more than 5 years. The NAFLD group included 102 (36.56%) patients, with the mean age of (70.19±5.81) years. There were 37 (36.27%) patients with the course of the disease less than or equal to 5 years and 65 (63.73%) patients with the course of the disease more than 5 years. Multivariate logistic regression analysis displayed that the increase of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (OR=5.361, 95%CI:1.811-15.867), hypertension (OR=1.843, 95%CI:1.091-3.114) and elevated total cholesterol (OR=2.637, 95%CI:1.565-4.444) were the risk factors of T2DM combined with NAFLD. Conclusion Increased FPG, hypertension and elevated TC are associated with T2DM complicated by NAFLD.
